Meet
STEVE GRAMMAS
Steve Grammas was born in New York but has proudly called Las Vegas home for over 45 years. He is the youngest of four children raised by two devoted public servants — his father, Jerome Grammas, a former United States Army Drill Sergeant and police officer in both New York and Las Vegas, and his mother, Sharen Grammas, a dedicated registered nurse who served in the heart care units of Sunrise and Mountain View Hospitals.
Steve’s commitment to public service was shaped early in life and reinforced by his siblings: his sister Elizabeth, a retired CCSD teacher and counselor; his brother Brian, a former LVMPD Detective; and his brother Mike, a well-known and trusted local mechanic.
Educated entirely within the Clark County School District, Steve attended OK Adcock Elementary, Booker 6th Grade Center, Garside Junior High, and Bonanza High School. He was a standout student-athlete, participating in football, basketball, and track and field, all while earning honors as a graduate from Bonanza High School.
Later in life, while continuing to serve his community, Steve returned to school and earned his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice in his 40s — a personal goal that reflects his belief in lifelong learning and professional growth.
Steve’s first job was as a summer camp counselor for the City of Las Vegas at Mirabelli Community Center, a place that remained a central part of his life through recreation, volunteering, and community service.
In August 1998, Steve began his law enforcement career as a Cadet with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), assisting officers in various capacities to support public safety. In January 2001, he entered the police academy and was assigned to patrol at Northwest Area Command. He soon became a Field Training Officer and later served in the Problem-Solving Unit, conducting follow-up investigations to improve safety for local neighborhoods.
In 2009, Steve joined the Narcotics Section, where he developed a strong reputation for his dedication to combating the sale of illegal drugs. The final 18 months of his narcotics career were spent as an undercover detective, pursuing high-level narcotics traffickers and protecting vulnerable communities.
In 2014, Steve became a full-time representative with the Las Vegas Police Protective Association (LVPPA) — Nevada’s largest police union, representing nearly 4,000 officers. In 2016, he was elected President of the LVPPA, a position he continues to hold with pride. As President, Steve has also been active during the legislative session, advocating on behalf of the betterment of first responders and supporting tough-on-crime bills with Governor Joe Lombardo to keep communities safe for all Nevadans. Under his leadership, the organization has strengthened its voice and visibility, and Steve has become a tireless advocate for the men and women who serve in law enforcement. He often says that “defending our first responders has been the honor of my life.”
Steve is married to Tiffany Grammas, a retired LVMPD dispatcher. Together, they have four daughters — Madison, Annabelle, Sophia, and Olivia — and have lived in Ward 6 since 2002. All four daughters attended public schools, including James Bilbray Elementary, Cadwallader Middle School, and Arbor View High School. Deeply rooted in the community, the Grammas family remains committed to serving and strengthening the place they’ve called home for over two decades.
